Welcome to the official site of the boys choir
In vehementi spiritu is a boys' choir which has been founded in Zele (between Antwerp and Ghent) in september 1995 by the actual conductor, Father Marc Van Steen. A boys' choir, that means a choir of which the heart consists of young male-trebles, added by only a few adult voices as to become a four-parts choir. Up to today the heart of In vehementi spiritu consists of twelve boys, added with a few adults. In such a way the choir is rather small and apted to grace the holy liturgy at different locations. The aim of the choir is strictly liturgical. That means that the choir is built as an adornment to the existing celebrating community. Its music is sacred, as a help to consecrate the whole celebration. Playing concerts is not the first practice. In vehementi spiritu means "in a heavy wind", that is to say in the wind of the Holy Ghost, inspiring the pupils of Christ who were in the Cenacle at Pentecost and came from incertainty to convincing belief. In vehementi spiritu is generally working in unit with a small chamber-orchestra with the striking name Praeludium Vitae Aeternae (prelude of eternal life). This chamber-orchestra is also founded in Zele by the actual conductor Luc De Sterck, today member of the Committee of the choir. The orchestra is working on a typical baroque concept: the instruments and interpretation tend to history on a very expressive way. Choir and orchestra gave way to different marked adornments in the past: cathedral of Utrecht (Netherlands), old and new cathedral of Sion (Switserland), cathedral of Edinburgh (Scotland), cathedral of Annécy (France), cathedrals of Salamanca and Jaca (Spain), cathedral of Pistoia (Italy), cathedral of Exeter (Great Britain), cathedral of Erfurt (Germany) and the cathedral of Brussels (Belgium). Choir and orchestra also visited Austria (Kleinwalsertal), Germany (Wiesekirche) and the Elzas in France (Colmar, Eguisheim, Kaysersberg). |
